So, this is one of my fave looks as of late. I've been obsessed with anything pink (haven't we all?), and when combined with white it manages to lift my mood no matter what.

I bought this pink and white striped, flared-sleeve blouse on Pull & Bear on a desperate search for something that I could wear in the office and when I need to look a bit smarter. That is the one department in which my wardrobe is found lacking. With the addition of this blouse and the yellow one (also with flared sleeves; noticing a pattern here?), I feel more confident that if the occasion calls I will have something to wear and skip the stressful and rushed shopping run, trying to hunt down a proper yet still fun shirt.

What I love most about this shirt is how easily it fitted into my current wardrobe. I think that's the proof of a great purchase: when you buy something and it's almost as if it was already there, sitting in the depths of your wardrobe, waiting to resurface.

Most often than not, I've been wearing it on casual outings. Visiting the documenta 14 exhibition in EMST (National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens; if you happen to find yourselves in Athens I urge you to pay a visit. ), going shopping, going out with friends and family. It's proven much more versatile than expected and I love how it can jazz up any outfit with such ease.

Like on this occasion I paired it with my trusty BDG mum jeans that I know are humongous, but I kind of love them for that? Call it man-repelling, but I love the antithesis it creates with the girly pink tones of the blouse. And of course, my footwear of choice were my well-loved Reeboks because if we're being honest, my stupid feet are not on their best form and it's either that or the classic Birkenstocks and believe it or not; I went down the most flattering road.

And kids, never forget to wear your sunglasses.

What's been your favourite item to wear lately? Share in the comments; I'd love to have a nosey!

Sunday Catch Up

Good morning guys and happy Sunday!
I hope this week treated you well and that your weekend is as relaxing and fun as possible. My week has been pretty hectic and tiring but the weekend started off great, with my sister and I took a long walk under the sun-bathed neoclassical buildings of the centre of Athens, so I'm not complaining. The only downfall is that my big foot toe has been suffering lately, so I predict myself limping through next week. For the last few weeks, I've been trying to find a place to live next year. I'll be moving to London for my studies, and that means, I'll probably have to rent and flatshare. If any of you have any kind of information on that matter, you will help me out more that I can say.

But enough of that. I thought it would be nice to share with you all some of the things I've discovered or particularly enjoyed this past week. Personally, I love these kinds of posts, and it's a nice change from another shopping list. What do you think? I won't bubble anymore, though. Let's dive straight into it, shall we?

Youtube Channel

A fairly recent discovery of mine, Violette is a French makeup artist living and working in New York. Apart from the fact that the looks she creates are downright gorgeous in that French carefree and cool way, her videos are unique in that she does all her tutorials in different places, from bars to inside beauty boutiques. But since words are an inadequate way to describe her genius, here's her latest video inspired by the iconic Jean Shrimpton. Enjoy!

Harry Styles

As a young girl I was completely snobbish in my music tastes. I refused to listen to anything mainstream and pop. Growing up I discovered the beauty of enjoying all kinds of music. For me, everything has its time and place and Harry's first solo album is the one I've been really into lately. I think it's a nice departure from the classic boy-band sound, with its 60's and 70's rock references. I've always loved his voice but besides that, I find the songs on this album quite melodic and nostalgic, so if you're asking me, it's definitely worth a listen. And if you're like me and love hearing multiple opinions, here's an article on Refinery 29 about Harry's emotional take on sexuality and Alex Petridis' review of the album for The Guardian. To avoid being called partial here's a mostly negative review (in video form) by the one and only needledrop on Youtube.

The Vegetarian by Han Kang, translated in English by Deborah Smith

I honestly don't have much to say about this one (yet) other than I love it and it has gripped me, unlike any book I've read in recent months. On the surface, it's a story about a woman who suddenly decides to give up meat completely. However, the book is so much more than that. It's a study of obsession, violence, the woman's body and acts of subversion. But like I said I can't review it properly yet, since I've just started it, but so far, I can tell that it's one that's going to stay with me for a long time.

Instagram Account

Ok, so this one is a very recent discovery, but I'm in love with it. This girl is taking pictures of skincare items and reviews them. All her photos are stunning, and her whole account is very visually pleasing. If you're a fan of skincare and pretty pictures go and follow her ASAP.

Another account on a similar vain is gelcream. Not only are her reviews incredible but her photography is honestly exquisite. She plays a lot with shadows and light, transparency and shapes. It's so refreshing to see such a creative take on something that could be very common and bland. To me, it proves that anyone's artistic sensitivities can find a way to be expressed no matter the subject at hand. Thanks Estee and Liv for introducing me to her!

Line of Duty

Okay, so I succumbed to the hype, and I'm so glad I did! I'm still too early in the series but so far so grand. It's been quite some time since I've enjoyed a crime show quite as much and maybe that's because it's not really a crime show? It's about the anti-corruption agency, and it hooks you right from the start. Can't wait to reach series four where the show apparently peaks. How much better can it get?

Waiting For...

The new Twin Peaks

I've watched these series, first in my mother's womb, then about three years ago and I'm now rewatching them with my sis in anticipation of the new season. I don't think there's ever been a quirkier, weirder crime show on television and it has had such an impact on telly as we know it. The original series explored the murder of the cool but mysterious high-school girl Laura Palmer while introducing us to all the unique characters that lived in the small town of Twin Peaks. This is classic David Lynch, mixing the extraordinary with the ordinary, dreams getting all jumbled up with reality. And there's, of course, the FBI agent Dale Cooper with his love of coffee and cherry pies. If you're even a tiny bit curious, give it a go. The New York Times have created an extensive catching up guide if you don't have time for all the episodes.

The Video

Elle Fanning's Fan Fantasy

This is an epic video full of fun and fans. All pun obsessees will surely love it. As will fashion fans, I'm sure.

In light of Dior's Resort 2018 show and Maria Grazia Chiuri's inspiration by the artist's paintings I have been obsessed with discovering her art. Inspired by nature, she created colourful and abstract works of art. Her flowery transmutations of the female genitalia are just incredible. I think I might have to hunt down a print for my bedroom.

Makeup. It’s something we’ve all got opinion on amirite?

Above all it’s something so very personal. There’s no right way to wear makeup, at least in my opinion. It’s a form of self-expression as much as style and clothes are and I’ve always been an advocate of extending the same generosity we have on personal style on makeup as well. It’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself at the end of the day.

Personally speaking I’ve never been an avid makeup wearer. Like I’ve said I’m much more of a skincare gal. That being said, I do like to dabble here and there in the world of makeup. It’s just too damn fun to skip it. And though most of my choices might err on the side of the “natural” look, I do love a good eyeliner flick, especially during the colder months when I can be sure it won’t slide off my face.

My overall approach to makeup, at least at this moment (and I can’t promise it won’t change in say a few months…) is an easy, je-ne-sais-quoi, Jeanne Damas-cum-Californian girl approach. Does that make any sense? I sure hope so. It’s honestly a lot simpler than it sounds. The one thing I want from my make-up look is to look effortless. I hate feeling like I’ve got tonnes of foundation on. I love letting my skin breathe and covering only what needs to be covered. At least on a day-to-day basis. A brand that perfectly represents my approach to makeup is Glossier. At least I think so because I haven’t tried any of their products yet since they don’t ship outside of the U.S. But from all the Youtube tutorials I’ve seen going around I am pretty positive I would absolutely love most of their products. I mean don’t get me started on their Cloud Paints.

I hope this has given you an idea of what I like to put on my face. A light base. Dewy skin. Pink cheeks and bronzed yet luminous cheekbones. Though I must be the one to admit I never look as tanned as I would have liked. I would have thought living in one of the sunniest countries would have helped counteract my pastiness, but having the blackest of black hair doesn’t help. Perhaps I should go blonder?

So yes. Base is my jam. If my skin looks as flawless as possible, I could go out feeling like Beyonce. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but you get my point. The hardest part in creating a perfect base is covering my undereye circles; my colouring does not help. It creates shadows and hollows, and no matter how much I might have slept they’re always there. Still, I know others have got it much harder than me, so I try not to complain too much. There’s nothing a bit (or a lot) of concealer won’t cover. Right now I’m using Mac’s Select Cover Up concealer in NC20 for both my under-eye and my skin. I do try to thin it out as much as possible though and go on in layers than pile it up since it’s pretty heavy duty and it can look cakey if you’re not careful. I spot conceal with it, cover my rosy cheek and nose area, and that’s pretty much it. If I’m feeling like I need some more coverage, I might put on a BB or CC cream. Right now I’ve got a Garnier one, which is nothing special but works fine. Base aside, the rest of my makeup changes from day to day. For the sake of this post, though, I’ve been trying to notice any patterns in my routine share them with you.

If I decide to wear some eyeshadow it will probably be in a simple colour, probably a satin finish from my Too Faced Chocolate palette (which I just adore). I find that shimmery colours bring more life to my brown eyes than a matte one would. I love wearing just one wash of colour with just a coating of mascara. Lately, I’ve also been experimenting with a few pinkier and peachier shades on the lids, and I’ve been kind of loving it. And here’s a tip. If you want to try something new without going out and spending money, use what you have. For my peach eye looks, I’ve been using my blushes, and I have to admit they have been working formidably.

And speaking of blush that’s a step I will never EVER skip. Not ever. No sir. Due to my colouring, I will look completely washed out without some colour on my face, especially if I’m also wearing a nude lip. #blushon. And the bronzer is equally important for the same reason. I've had The Body Shop's Honey Bronzer for years now, and it works perfectly. It gives me a healthy-looking tan without ever looking like I've got too much on. I've never looked like an Oompa Loompa, which to me proves the success of this bronzer.

A bit of highlighter on the high points of the cheeks has also become unavoidable. Who doesn't love having glowing cheeks? Not too much, though. I've got the Balm's OG Mary Luminizer but I tend to use a very light hand with it, or I could end up looking like a disco ball.

Last but not least, come the lips. Right now, I don't have any product that I'm completely satisfied with. I'm on the hunt for a "my lips but better" colour in a comfortable formulation. Honestly, it could have any finish, except metallic or shimmery. So, not any but I'm open to all suggestions.

So, how about you? Do you wear makeup? What is your approach to it and what are your favourite products? I'm really curious and always on the lookout for new favourites!

xx Mary

Summer Whites for Warm Days

Wearing all white, or all cream is something I keep telling myself to do more often, especially living in an all-year-round sunny country. Yet more often than not, I will gravitate towards these cream colours during the hotter months. It's a breath of fresh air when the temperature has reached the 25-degree mark. The combination of different white and cream tones is what elevates what could otherwise be a boring outfit. There's just something so sophisticated about dressing tonally, which proves that the Kardashian clan is on to something. Though, to be frank, I'll stick to my more flowy pieces which are made for summers.

This outfit came together from the bottom up. I just bought these gorgeous mules from Zara, and I just had to take them out for a good spin. That was partly a mistake because I walked more than I was planning to that day and my feet's pinky toes suffered from blisters. I'm not giving up on them, though. They are the most flattering pair of shoes I own. The muted greyish colour makes them so versatile and chic. People seem to have a love-hate relationship with mules, saying they remind them of horses' hooves. Personally, I'm cemented on the firm supporters' camp. I mean, horses got four, miles-long legs, so I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. Joking aside, these shoes are what elevated this outfit. My white jeans are BDG from Urban Outfitters, and I've had them for at least 3 to 4 seasons now. They've never let me down. They're made from proper, rigid, denim, and I can see them lasting for years to come. Only be careful with your red wines. I paired them with a simple beige cami that I've had since I was 15, ordered off of a La Redoute catalogue -as you do. On top, because I was feeling like throwing something over and not because of the weather but because I wanted to add an extra element to the outfit, I added a cream vintage blouse that I bought many years ago. I think it jazzed up the outfit, giving it a maximalism spin. Of course, it ended up tied around my hips, but hey-ho, when the cameras close, shit gets real.

Happy Sunday!

I hope you’ve all had a great week. Mine has been pretty uneventful. Unfortunately, I lacked in motivation and energy, which in turn took a toll on my mood. I must try to remember how letting yourself go stale can create a vicious cycle. It wasn’t all a fail, though. There are so many little, everyday things that can bring me joy, from watching a vlog to buying a new pair of shoes, and when you add them up, you realise that your week (or weeks, even) weren’t that bad after all. So, in case you’re looking for something new to watch, to buy or to give you some inspiration, here are a few of the youtube channels things I’ve been obsessed with these past few weeks:

I love watching Youtube videos whenever I have the time. And I really like all kinds of content creators, though, what I’ll watch each day depends on my mood and the length of my attention span. Nothing relaxes me quite as well as a good makeup tutorial. There’s just something so calming about watching people gently apply their foundation while talking to a camera. But it’s not just makeup I tend to watch in my breaks; I love watching vlogs of people sharing snippets of their everyday lives. A part of me will always cringe a little thinking how Big-brothery it all seems to be, but I can’t help enjoying it nonetheless. I am a millennial after all, and this is the sharing age. Heck, I’ve even got a blog myself! Lately, I’ve been really into watching Youtubers from California. They give me all the summer vibes I need, and right now I love the easy, breezy vibes they project.

How To Cheer Yourself Up

There are some days that are just meh. And we all have them. Hopefully not on a regular basis but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that they come and go every so often. When I’m lucky enough not to have a lot of things to do on that day, I will usually allow myself to be taken over the feelings of apathy and annoyance and just let it be. I will watch some of my fave series, eat some ice-cream, sulk at anyone who dares to try cheering me up.

Usually, though, I hate feeling like that, especially since it doesn’t let me do anything productive, thus creating a vicious circle of feeling sorry for yourself. So, whenever I don’t want to go down that road, I will try to implement some tricks I’ve accumulated over the years to help me get over those sad feelings. Here are a few things that might help cheer you up, if you’re currently finding yourself in that awful place

  • Listen to your favourite uplifting songs. Or find a ready-made playlist and discover some great new tunes.
  • Go for a walk in the fresh air. (Polluted air will do, too. Not the same results, but just get out of the house!)
  • Take some time for yourself, whether that is taking care of your skin or taking a long, luxuriating bath.
  • Watch your favourite film (that doesn’t make you sad. Unless you feel that will actually help you. Then, by all means, watch the saddest movie you own and cry your heart out.)
  • Go out for a few drinks with your friends.
  • But do try to not drink too much, or next day’s hangover will negate all the efforts you had put on cheering yourself up the previous day.
  • Wear your favourite (dancing) shoes that make you feel like a million dollars. Wear everything that makes you feel amazing.
  • If you can’t go out, then just call your friends and chat for a bit.
  • Try not to binge-eat that ice-cream pint. It will ultimately make you feel much worse.
  • All images were found on Pinterest. Sources include The Reformation, Wonderland Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine and Stoned Immaculate Clothing

  • Paint your nails.
  • Put on some red lipstick even if you’re just going to the post-office.
  • Blast some music and dance around in your house like nobody’s watching.
  • Exercise. Do some yoga from the comfort of your home.
  • Take deep breaths.
  • Catch up with your favourite bloggers.
  • Leave nice comments.
  • Read a book.
  • Buy something you have been lusting over but have been putting off. Within reason, of course.
  • Unleash your creativity! Write, draw, do some DIY, make your own jewellery.
  • Offer kind words to anyone you meet. Brightening up someone else’s day works a treat on my mood.
  • Try learning a new language. Hej!

How about you, though? Do any of these tricks work for you as well? Have you got any mechanisms to help you cope on those days where you feel down in the dumps? If so, do share them! I’d love to add some more to my repertoire, and I’m sure others would, too.

How to Have the Perfect Summer Skin

Today I thought I’d share with you something a little different. Skincare is a big part of my life, but I’ve never talked about in depth here. I’m one of those people that are much more likely to spend money on good skincare products than luxury makeup items. To be fair, I love playing around with makeup products, trying new looks and new textures. But I believe that makeup is the last step, the surface if you will that can only do so much for the skin. If what lies underneath isn’t in good shape, then that will show through no matter how much foundation you’ve got on.

These days I find myself enjoying more and more the spring weather we’re having. I used to be irrevocably against warm weather. Not only does it mean that the year is going by a lot faster than I would have liked but also that dressing like a human onion is no longer a viable option. Other years I would have lamented the loss of the cold winter days that allow me to sit in front of the telly wrapped up in the comfiest fleece blanket while watching my latest tv obsession (see Big Little Lies) But this year, after a long and exhausting winter I can’t wait to feel the warmth on my skin once more; and yes, even bearing my limbs seems like an exciting prospect seeing as I have almost forgotten what they look like. I’m sure I’ll be taking this statement back soon enough.

But honestly, who doesn’t at this point want to start wearing dresses and skirts with bare legs? I will be making the transition easier at first by wearing some fishnet tights. Probably. I have to try them on first and let you know how I get on with them. On other girls, they’re looking super cool, but I still find the idea of them daunting. The idea is to tame them with a pair of grounding Vans.

Can you tell I’m in a day-dreaming mood? I can’t help but think of all the clothes I’d love to buy and wear this coming season. I can’t be the only one, right? The high street has blossomed with every colour of the rainbow, and I'm fantasising of the occasions where I might have to wear a pale yellow dress or a fuschia blazer. The answer to the latter one is everywhere in case you were wondering.

I have been feeling stuck and uninspired for so long that creating a wishlist, a visual collage of everything I’ve been lusting over seemed like a great thing to share with you all. I have been trying so much to come up with something more creative and original, but sometimes you’ve just got to go with your gut feeling. So I hope that you, like me, will be inspired by all the pretty clothes, that they will get you dreaming of sunny picnics and Sunday brunches with your fam. I hope they will take you to faraway places, to warmer climes, or at the beach sipping cocktails. I hope they will make you want to hit the dance floor even if that is completely out of character. I hope they will make you want to fake tan your wintery legs and bare them confidently as the weather warms up. I hope you will feel as inspired as me to do and try new things with confidence this coming season.
